Holy Mt Kailash—a sacred mountain in remote western Tibet—is the centerpiece of this epic Himalayan pilgrimage, beginning in Lhasa, the cultural and spiritual capital of Tibet. This journey unveils sacred Buddhist monasteries, dramatic landscapes, and cultural experiences along the historic Silk Route.
From Lhasa, you travel across southern and central Tibet towards Everest Base Camp North Face, witnessing the high Himalayan giants—Everest, Cho Oyu, and Shishapangma—from three breathtaking 5,000-meter road passes.
The route then leads to the heart of Ngari, a spectacularly remote region that cradles Holy Mt Kailash (6,714 m) and Lake Manasarovar—two of the world’s most sacred pilgrimage sites. Regarded by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers as the spiritual axis of the universe, Holy Mt Kailash is believed to be the earthly embodiment of Mt. Meru.
For Hindus, Mt Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva, and bathing in Lake Manasarovar is said to cleanse a hundred lifetimes of sin. Buddhists and Bon pilgrims perform the Kailash Kora, a 52-km high-altitude trek crossing the Dolma La Pass (5,600 m), believed to purify karma.
The mountain is equally revered by Jains, who believe that their first Tirthankara attained liberation here. The Bon tradition sees Mt Kailash as the descent point of its founder, with a unique anti-clockwise pilgrimage route.
Despite its remoteness, the Holy Mt Kailash Expedition ensures comfort with selected hotels and reliable jeep transfers across this dramatic terrain. This is not only a visual and physical adventure, but also a deeply spiritual experience through one of Asia’s last untouched regions.
