Commencing in Phnom Penh your regional tour of Cambodia and Thailand quickly departs the capital city and heads into the steamy forests of Kirirom National Park. This elevated pine forest is home to a number of endangered animal species such as pleated gibbons, sun bears and tigers.

From here we cover a short 3 km trek to the stunning 40 meter Chambok Waterfall at the Chambok Community-based ecotourism site and take an ox-cart ride through the village before sitting down to a delicious home-cooked lunch. From here you are transferred directly to your ‘floating tent lodge’ accommodation for the night on the Tatai River. The river flows from the imposing Cardamom Mountains and creates a haven for nature lovers that can walk along its banks spotting rare birds such as fish eagles, kingfisher and more. In the evening don’t miss the opportunity to take out the lodge’s kayak with their guide to see trees full of magical fireflies.

Next you take a boat to visit Koh Sraloav, a nearby fishing village. On the way you will pass through heavy mangroves and make headway through dense rainforest before arriving at the village to see local fishermen going about their daily lives. Here we visit a monastery and a local school where there is some time to relax and play with the schoolchildren. After lunch take a kayak out onto the water and explore the mangroves.

Transfer to the Thai border and make your way with our representative to Trad province. From here a ferry will take you to Koh Chang for 4 days of relaxing by the beach and exploring the islands at your leisure. A number of optional activities are available to join in as you please. There is also the option to stay on Koh Kood rather then Koh Chang.

Further visit the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. A grim, but important visit that will allow you to dig below the surface and understand Cambodia better.

After learning about some of Cambodia’s tragic past it is time to put a smile back on your face and experience modern Khmer life. Return to central Phnom Penh for lunch at Le Lotus Blanc, a training restaurant for the humanitarian organization Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (for the smile of a child) that provides education and job training to street children that used to be scavenging the municipal dump, and give them skills and hope for a brighter future. Your visit helps support the training of these kids by being their guest.

Note: Lotus Blanc closes on Sundays and public holidays.

Enjoy an atmospheric sunset river cruise and watch how Phnom Penh’s popular riverfront comes to life in the early evening. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Today spend a relaxing day on a private excursion. Away from the tranquility of 4 Rivers Floating Lodge, the thunder of the majestic Tatai Falls reveals the river’s true power as it drops 6 meters to the rocks below. Your day, depending on the tide, starts at around 10am for the 45-minute boat ride past Tatai village to the falls. A local English speaking guide will lead the tour.

Turning on to a tributary you head into the heart of the Cardamom jungle to the far-off sounds of exotic birds and its secretive wildlife. Within minutes you are at journey’s end, gazing down into the turbulent waters of the falls. Soon it’s time for your picnic lunch, maybe a few moments hydro-massage and a refreshing drink as you find some shade for a picnic and relax amongst the sights and sounds of the jungle. Kayaks are available for the last stretch to add some fun and adventure or you can stay on board the boat.
On your return to the lodge the late afternoon is free at leisure for you to relax or do some more kayaking or fishing from the tent platform. (L included)

Optional: Greet the Neighbours (a walk into Khmers’ life)

Koh Andet is the island located directly across from your floating tent. Formerly a refuge from the Khmer Rouge, today the island is home to a dozen farming families. On this popular excursion which lasts 1-2 hours, or more if you are enjoying yourself, you are accompanied by a local English speaking guide.
