Commencing in Phnom Penh your regional tour of Cambodia and Thailand quickly departs the capital city and heads into the steamy forests of Kirirom National Park. This elevated pine forest is home to a number of endangered animal species such as pleated gibbons, sun bears and tigers.
From here we cover a short 3 km trek to the stunning 40 meter Chambok Waterfall at the Chambok Community-based ecotourism site and take an ox-cart ride through the village before sitting down to a delicious home-cooked lunch. From here you are transferred directly to your ‘floating tent lodge’ accommodation for the night on the Tatai River. The river flows from the imposing Cardamom Mountains and creates a haven for nature lovers that can walk along its banks spotting rare birds such as fish eagles, kingfisher and more. In the evening don’t miss the opportunity to take out the lodge’s kayak with their guide to see trees full of magical fireflies.
Next you take a boat to visit Koh Sraloav, a nearby fishing village. On the way you will pass through heavy mangroves and make headway through dense rainforest before arriving at the village to see local fishermen going about their daily lives. Here we visit a monastery and a local school where there is some time to relax and play with the schoolchildren. After lunch take a kayak out onto the water and explore the mangroves.
Transfer to the Thai border and make your way with our representative to Trad province. From here a ferry will take you to Koh Chang for 4 days of relaxing by the beach and exploring the islands at your leisure. A number of optional activities are available to join in as you please. There is also the option to stay on Koh Kood rather then Koh Chang.
