Embark on a richly immersive 18-day Myanmar Birding and Culture Adventure, crafted to showcase the country’s exceptional endemic birdlife and its most iconic cultural landmarks. This journey is ideal for those who seek both rare wildlife encounters and deep cultural exploration.
Your adventure begins in Yangon, where you’ll marvel at the shimmering Shwedagon Pagoda and other historic sites. You’ll then enjoy introductory birding at Hlawga Park, where forest trails offer chances to spot Davison’s Bulbul and other lowland forest species.
Next, fly north to Mandalay, a city steeped in royal heritage. Explore its cultural treasures before continuing to the scenic hill station of Kalaw in the eastern mountains. Spend two full days birding in this cool, pine-clad region in search of the near-endemic Burmese Yuhina and other highland species.
From Kalaw, travel east to the tranquil waters of Inle Lake. Here, explore stilted villages and floating gardens while birdwatching for specialties such as Jerdon’s Bushchat, Collared Myna, and a variety of wetland birds.
The tour then leads to the ancient city of Bagan, home to over 2,000 temples and pagodas dating back to the 9th–12th centuries. In addition to exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll have the chance to find dry-zone birds, including Myanmar’s endemic species.
A scenic drive brings you to Natmataung National Park in the Chin Hills, the southernmost extension of the Himalayan range. For four nights, you’ll stay in a comfortable mountain lodge inside the park, with three full days dedicated to birding. This region offers a rare opportunity to observe the elusive White-browed Nuthatch along with a diverse mix of Himalayan and Southeast Asian mountain species.
Following your highland birding adventure, return to Bagan for an overnight rest, then fly back to Yangon for a final night before your departure.
This tour is a perfect blend of nature and heritage, offering unforgettable experiences across Myanmar’s biodiverse landscapes and cultural heartlands.
