Birds & Mammals of Borneo offers a deep dive into one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth. This rainforest-covered island is estimated to be home to 222 species of mammals (including 44 endemics), 420 bird species (37 endemics), 100 amphibians, and 394 species of fish—19 of which are endemic. Just in the Heart of Borneo, a 220,000-km² region in the island’s mountainous core, live 10 species of primates, 350+ birds, and over 150 reptiles and amphibians.
On this wildlife adventure, we travel across both Sarawak and Sabah in search of Borneo’s most charismatic species. In primeval forests, we encounter orangutans swinging through the canopy, proboscis monkeys leaping between trees, and hornbills gliding at sunrise. We navigate rivers where Asian pygmy elephants roam, and explore the foothills of Mount Kinabalu, a towering presence over the island’s northern landscape.
Borneo’s rich tropical environment—marked by dipterocarp trees, dense undergrowth, and a thriving microhabitat—nurtures immense biodiversity. One dipterocarp tree can hold up to 1,000 insect species and hosts countless lichens, fungi, and plants that support a vast ecological web. These ancient forests are not only ecological treasures but also living classrooms, offering lessons in biodiversity, adaptation, and resilience.
This journey through Birds & Mammals of Borneo is more than a safari—it’s a conservation-focused expedition. As we trek through jungle trails, cruise along rainforest rivers, and visit renowned conservation sites like Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, we also engage with local communities, learning about both traditional and modern Bornean life.
LessGiving back to the communities is our responsibility!
With every trip, you also support the SWAN and thus projects for Sustainable Community development and Biodiversity protection.
Our primary NGO partner is Social Welfare Association of Nepal (SWAN), with whom we have carried out multiple CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) projects. Besides carrying out regular CSR activities in the areas of education and women empowerment, we have supported relief and rehabilitation initiatives in the aftermath of several natural disasters like earthquake, immediate response to COVID-19 pandemic across Nepal.
Giving something back to the world is a special and responsible affair of travel-to-nature Asia right from its inception. When you travel with travel-to-nature Asia and SWAN-Nepal, you become an integral force for change in addressing the most pressing social and wildlife conservation issues. Your tourism funds help transform the future of under-privileged and marginalized communities and transform the future of at-risk natural places you travel. Portion of our profit flows to local communities who live with and steward nature, creating jobs and improving livelihoods.
By joining one of our holidays you are playing a vital role in bringing positive changes in the lives of local community.
